Best Running Routes in Perth

Running or walking, you can’t beat all the amazing views of Perth. Whether you are new to running or an experienced runner, I’m sure you would have come across some of these magical places.

Here are some of my favourite running spots in Perth:

1. Kings Park

At 400 ha, did you know our city park is larger than New York’s Central Park. With so many different options to choose from, why not give Jacobs Ladder a go, or head from the top of Mount street towards the DNA tower for a nice scenic walk or run (1.5km each way). If you are looking for a more challenging option, head to another favourite spot, the Kokoda trail. This will really challenge your physical fitness levels.

2. Trigg Coastal Run

A beautiful way to see the coastline of Perth. Head north to Yelo cafe and make your way up the walk/cycle path towards Hillary’s where you will pass many surfers waiting to catch that perfect wave. The Little Bay is a great destination to stop for coffee or breakfast along the way.

3. South Perth (Bridges Run)

The Swan River bridges run is a perfect 10km loop of the river suitable for all levels. With many different areas to start the loop, be sure to bring some money if you want to stop off for an Acai Bowl from The Acai Corner at South Perth or a coffee from Elizabeth Quay.

4. Matilda Bay

A walk or run along Matilda bay is a perfect way to start your weekend. This area is normally busy with families and you will see why because of the amazing views of the city and river. If you head from Matilda Bay Restaurant towards the city (Old Swan Brewery) this round trip will be around 6.5km.

5. The Zamia Trail, City Beach

Nestled away in City Beach is a perfect trail walk which has a few challenging hills to get your heart rate up. This 5km loop makes you feel like you are not in Perth as you head through some stunning bushland. From here, you get some great views of both the city and the ocean.

6. Lake Monger

A popular location for people who are looking at building up there running. This flat loop of the lake is 3.5km in total and a good starting place for new runners. Along the way you will get city views as well as come across some local wildlife.

If you can’t motivate yourself to run, there are a few great local running groups who have weekly organised runs. See below some of my favourite.

  1. Dose Running

  2. Perth Run Collective

  3. Perth Urban Runners.

If your workplace is looking at starting a running group to train towards an event, or for your next social club activity, reach out to me and I’ll keep you motivated with a running program. Many of my corporate clients train together leading up to big events like the HBF Run and City to Surf and we can work together to make running fun. If you are walking or running solo or hesitant about your fitness levels, reach out to me for my tailored learn to run program for accountability.
