6 Of The Best Ways To Stay Active Down South In WA

With a long weekend coming up, a lot of people will depart Perth and head down the coast to the Margaret River region for a much needed getaway.

Even with winery after winery to choose from and plenty of spectacular restaurants to visit, your trip down south doesn’t need to be all about the food and wine. There are plenty of ways to balance out some of those calories with the stunning coastline, bike tracks and hiking locations.

I’ve done the hard yards for you and found five of the best ways you can stay active on your next weekend down south:

1. Meelup Reserve Trail, Dunsborough

A great hike along the coastline where you will most likely be greeted by some local wildlife. Allow a couple of hours as it’s 7.4km one way. This would be ideal for a beginner as no hiking experience is needed on this fairly flat walk.

2. Mountain Bike the Wadandi Track, Margaret River

The Wadandi Track is a great option for first-time mountain bikers looking for an off-road thrill. Take in the beautiful forest and cycle historic bridges which once were part of the railway line to Busselton. If you don’t have a bike, you can hire one from the crew at The Hairy Marron Bike Cafe in Margaret River.

3. Bunker Bay Loop, Dunsborough

Enjoy a 3.6km walk taking in the breathtaking clifftop views on this Bunker Bay walk. Make sure to take in the views from the platform that overlooks Shelley Cove and remember to take water and sun cream. A great time to do this is between September and April.

4. The Movement Fitness & Wellbeing, Dunsborough

If you are in need of a sweat and a group environment down south, head to the team at The Movement Fitness & Wellbeing to be put through your paces. A recommended class would be the Saturday 7:30am Weekend Warrior if you can get in!

5. Swell Yoga Studio, Margaret River

For a slower start to your day, move freely and do something good for your body and mind by heading to Swell for your weekend yoga fix. Join the experienced Fran for an 8am Saturday Vinyasa or slow down your Sunday with a 6pm Yin class.

6. Morning Beach Walk from White Elephant Cafe, Gnarabup to Surfers Point, Prevelly

Wake up after a good night's rest and grab a coffee from the White Elephant Cafe before taking a leisurely walk along the beach front to Surfers Point. Enjoy watching the locals catch some waves whilst walking along the beach or taking the footpath from the cafe to Surfers Point.
